A famous poet once said: ‘Tired of London, tired of life’. There’s no place in the world with such a creative buzz as the UK capital. That makes London the ideal place for hotspotting. Where to eat, where to sleep, where to shop? Londonista An Bogaerts leads the way.

El Pastor

Southbank

What? This might just be the best place to eat taco’s in London. And for London that is quite a big deal, since taqueria’s are multiplying here like Mexican cacti. But El Pastor is different. It is a well thought-through concept of brothers Sam and Eddie Hart, who also launched Barrafina. For El Pastor, Sam Hart teamed up with Crispin Somerville, a friend with whom he used to run a restaurant and bar in Mexico City. So these guys know how to put down a real Mexican cuisine and ambiance. Their secret: the perfect frozen margarita’s and a taco menu that makes choosing an impossible task.

Looks? The El Pastor restaurant is situated in an archway. That makes the entrance not really sexy and attractive (or easy to find even), but the interior design makes up for that. Brick walls, lighting garlands and metal cladding make sure the atmosphere is very cosy and relaxed, especially in combination with a vibrant Mexican colour scheme. El Pastor is not a huge place, so you easily get a nice buzz inside. Another plus: Aesop products in the bathroom!

What else? This extremely popular taco joint does not take reservations, so please arrive on opening time or prepare yourself for some waiting. El Pastor is the perfect address to combine with a visit to Borough Market, which is just across the street. Be sure not to taste too many goodies on the market, it would be a shame not being able to fully enjoy the amazing taco’s served at El Pastor.
