What? For those of you who love seafood and can enjoy a good glass of wine with it surrounded by an energizing buzz, The Oystermen is without any doubt the place to be. The idea for this charming place originated on Matts wedding, when he and his friend/colleague Rob shucked oysters for the entire guest list. Matt and Rob started out with a catering concept serving fresh oysters on all kinds of events. A few months ago The Oystermen found their permanent spot in the heart of London. Specialties of the house, oysters and crab, vary depending on daily catchings along the British coast. On a kind of score board it is easy to follow the daily offerings. With each order you can see the score board changing, which makes you want to order fast (and elaborate). An easy trick, but you never leave The Oystermen disappointed.
Looks? The Oystermen is located in one of my favourite streets in London: Henrietta Street, where Frenchie opened its doors two years ago. The Oystermen location is not a big place, it seats only about 25 people. The nonchalant interior design in wood, rough concrete and white tiling gives the restaurant the charm of a typical British café along the coast. The big asset of The Oystermen is not only the extraordinary quality of served British seafood but also the no-nonsense way of serving oysters and crab. Both the interior design as the pricing make sure that even young Londoners are triggered to lunch here.
What else? Happy Hour, of course. Every day between 3pm and 5pm The Oystermen offers ‘Bubbles ‘n’ Oysters Happy Hour’ , which means: six fresh oysters and a glass of Crémant du Bourgogne at the price of 10 pounds. An ideal aperitif, if you ask me.
